Choose Wonder

You can decide every day, multiple times every day, if you want to have a sense of joy, slight awe, and/or amazement in your life.
You can choose wonder—or you can choose the opposite of wonder, something that seems to be plentiful in our current day.
I think that snarky voice, the negative remark, the ability to have a slight dissatisfaction with everything, is inside all of us. We are blessed and cursed with seemingly infinite choice, the possibility that there might be something a little bit better, or even “perfect,” around the corner, in the next swipe left, or after a few more seconds of scrolling.
I’m not advocating for 24/7 blind optimism. The world is not a perfect place and many things about it should change so it can become a better place for more people.
But you can fight for change and still experience joy.

The world is changing faster than ever before, and it gets easier every year you’re alive to be just a bit more of a pessimist, turning the brightness dial of your perspective down another notch. It takes effort, but I believe it’s worth it, when we can, to squint into a visual field of rain clouds loaded with infinite ways we could be disappointed, unimpressed, and dissatisfied with every little thing in our lives, and instead focus on a sense of awe and amazement.

Raia Was Essentials  By Raia Was
I've been on the scene for a while- I was raised in NYC, I grew up playing in piano bars downtown. I've been in bands, in sessions, in commercials, on the road. Last year I released my debut solo album Angel I'm Frightened (Side A) and was humbled by how my city and my community received this work. Part of that reception came in the form of remixes by three of my favorite producers, all NY based and all women. This playlist is an ode to them.

Through a Plane's Window by Yasi
Lately, I've been traveling a lot, and it gives me a lot of time to reflect on where I've been and where I am going. These songs always hit me more when I'm looking out a plane's window, nostalgic moments to prepare me for new ones.

Afrohaus Vibes by the.wav
Lets get into some Spiritual Vibrations.
The vibes released from Claim My Love are designed to guide your  into the cosmos. When I step into the realm of music I’m looking for a therapeutic and spiritually uplifting effect.
In my teenage years I’d listen to music that had all kinds of aggressive and toxic messaging. After experiencing some of my own trauma I began listening too and creating music that embodied more healing properties. This playlist allows for every cell in your body to leap into rhythm while letting your soul soak in the calm and soothing vibes. ENJOY!!

Year of Presence by Kwame
A  bonus playlist made up  of songs that were in heavy rotation from my Year of Return trip to Ghana.
May the blissful memories and electric feelings never fade.
